Colombia Humana activists criticize Gustavo Petro for scolding Gustavo Bolivar: "Inappropriate."

Through an official statement, Colombia Humana activists expressed their support for the director of Social Prosperity, Gustavo Bolívar, following recent comments by the president of the Broad Front.
The document, released this Sunday, states that the activists consider the statement by the president of the political bloc inappropriate and emphasize Bolívar's integrity and commitment to the project of change.

The letter highlights that Bolívar was responsible for announcing an additional $52 billion investment in the Social Prosperity budget to financially support senior citizens, describing this decision as having a high impact. The signatories believe his leadership and loyalty to the project made him the right person for the job.
The statement confirms that Bolívar has submitted his letter of resignation from the leadership of Social Prosperity, which will take effect on May 16. According to the statement, his decision was explicit and stems from personal reasons.

The activists also reiterated their position on the need to strengthen the role of municipalities within the movement, promoting local empowerment as a key element of political action. They affirmed that leadership must emerge from the grassroots and that fieldwork is essential to consolidate territorial commitment.
They also called for the 2026 elections not to repeat past mistakes, pointing out that some congressional candidates elected in 2022 did not represent the ideals of progressivism. Therefore, they proposed holding a broad popular consultation that would allow the grassroots to elect the movement's candidates.

Gustavo Bolívar and the Broad Front
We, the Colombia Humana activists, take the comment our president made to the director of Social Prosperity, Gustavo Bolívar, as personal and inappropriate. We consider him a man of integrity who, without expecting anything in return, has demonstrated, in abundance, loyalty to the project of change and respect for those who lead it.
For activists from Colombia Humana, it's clear that Gustavo Bolívar was the right person to announce the economic support measures for senior citizens, whose attendance at the event was significant. This represents an additional $52 billion investment in addition to the budget managed by the Social Prosperity Act, which was authorized by the Internal Unrest decree. Gustavo Bolívar's resignation letter explicitly states that he will leave office on May 16.
As Colombia Humana activists, we insist on the need for municipalities to empower themselves and assume their role as the "main political decision-making and action force of the movement." We believe that leadership must be recognized and originate from the grassroots. Municipal empowerment is essential to achieving commitment from the region and developing efficient fieldwork. Without it, we believe the 2026 elections would be a failure.
In the congressional elections, where some won through finger-pointing and the votes of Gustavo Petro, it was clear that many of those elected were not truly progressive, unfamiliar with the laws, or lacked leadership skills. Therefore, as members of Colombia Humana, we support a broad Popular Consultation that guarantees that the candidates are chosen by the grassroots.
We welcome the presence of Carolina Corcho and Gustavo Bolívar on the list of candidates for the Colombian presidency.
